hello from la la land & emmy wrap up…

and here’s my fashion wrap-up…

proud of my friend

i’m very proud of my friend, the fantastic nikki james.

kick it out

Update #2:  Someone uploaded their full performance from last night on youtube.  Check it out below.  I was so proud, tears filled my eyes and I got goosebumps.  You ladies dazzled.

It starts around the one minute mark.

Update:  They also made an appearance on the Ellen Show.  Work it out.

Original Post:

A little video of my beautiful friends on “Dancing with the Stars” (around 1:30 in this segment).  They are also dancing on tonight’s episode.  Yay Annie and Nicole!  You are fierce! :)  (You can also watch the full episodes online here).

this always makes me laugh! :)

another strike?!

nyc.jpgI recently read the news that Broadway shows’ stagehands are now on strike – click here to read for yourself.  All but 8 Broadway shows are currently closed.  I believe that the 8 shows that are running either belong to a different union or have an alternate contract.

One of the Broadway shows that is running is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, so New Yorkers you can go see my friends Josh Walker, Jenelle Engleson, and Katie Martin perform in it!  (I was in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular tour in Toronto, Canada last year with Jenelle and Katie.)

A little trip down memory lane, eh?

While this is a good opportunity for New Yorkers to see Off-Broadway shows, I hope this is resolved by my upcoming first inaugural trip to New York City in January.  The purpose of my entire trip is two-fold:

  1. See as many Broadway shows as I can.
  2. Spend as much time as I can with my Radio City friends

What will this Broadway lover do her first time in the big city if the shows are still closed?

magic made alive

Can’t really explain it, I haven’t got the words
It’s a feeling that you can’t control
I suppose it’s like forgetting, losing who you are
And at the same time something makes you whole

-Rosie

My sentiments exactly about acting, magic made alive.  Sitting in the velvet seats at my first Broadway show or walking on set for my first movie.

message to myself, and you too :)

See, I am doing a new thing!  -Isaiah 43:19

Truthfully, the WOF conference came at the most inconvenient time for me this year.  It was the weekend before the weeklong Little People of America Conference, the same weekend as a dear friend’s wedding and the same weekend in which I was bloody, bloody sick.

But it is the only chance for me to connect with my friend Marilyn.  It’s more than just that, but you may read about that in a previous blog entitled  why I go.

Anyways, back to starting a new thing.  I took my little arena seat in the front row and felt heavy that night.  It was not as if I expected to have or did have a come-to-Jesus-moment because my life has never worked that way.  But in the quietness of my heart and through the words of each speaker, my hope was being renewed, little seed by seed.

My discouragement was summed up in one sentence by that casting director

-The world is not ready for a LP heroine.

Her words had ricocheted around my mind for over a week until, sitting in that seat, I heard a small voice say,

-The world might not be ready yet, but the kingdom IS.

And so maybe this blog is mostly for me, ammunition to face my next daunting audition, kinda like Melissa Etheridge’s latest song being literally called message to myself.

broken places

Grey’s Season 3: Derek & Ellis Scene

there’s been nothing on tv this summer, so i’ve been rewatching season 3 of grey’s anatomy on abc…tonight’s episode was one of my favorites this year.  it contains 3-4 of the most memorable scenes, scenes that packed quite an emotional punch.

the scene between derek and ellis (ellis is derek’s girlfriend meredith’s mother) always hits me in different ways.  it’s always really raw and yet at the same time really healing.

there’s something really validating about it.  the pain that strikes at your core, the wounds that came in childhood that taught your little girl heart to fear.  Continue reading ‘broken places’

as i am.

When she won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2007, her speech specifically mentioned what the award would mean to her daughters. “Just to be able to take this thing home to my girls in particular and hold it in front of them and say, ‘Look. With this skin and this nose and this height and these arms, you know, I’m here,’” Chandra said. “Thank you, Screen Actors Guild, for taking me as I am.”

The cast for the movie i was down to the final 2 for before they pulled the plug on a little person heroine was recently announced on ‘Entertainment Tonight’.  Some jealous twinges and heart pangs ensued as my character was morphed and is now played by an “uglified” glamour girl.
