Ok so the internet seems to be ablaze with commentary regarding Miss California USA’s response to gossip blogger and pageant judge Perez Hilton’s question on gay marriage. Suffice it to say Miss Cali USA’s response was very divisive and one would think even if she supports the hateful ban on gay marriage she could craft a more compelling answer. I echo other sentiments I have read that she made her answer too personal and did not show compassionate diplomacy. Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler (credible source in this instance) stated that had Carrie Prejean won she would not have been the first conservative Christian. And with Prop 8 having passed her opinion seems to still be the majority, sadly. But a Miss USA does compete in Miss Universe and must be able to represent various groups with dignity.

Hilton suggests she could have even stated that she would leave it up to each state. I wonder if Miss Cali could’ve won with anything less than a progressive answer.

Regardless of Miss Cali’s narrowmindedness, my real purpose of this blog post is none other than Miley Cyrus. Love her or not, girlfriend made a cool $40mil last year. And I’ve already admitted publicly that I quite enjoy her new ballad “The Climb”.

Ok getting to the point here… Hilton’s “love you or hate you” style of borderline personality disordered blogging has never been favorable toward Cyrus. He’s been downright cruel and “Miles” seemed genuinely hurt.

But leave it to Twitter to bring us all together. Today, several of Perez’s posts seem genuinely affected (yes I am using genuine and Hilton in the same sentence). To which Miley summons up her class, takes the high road and reaches out to offer words of support and encouragement. She gave a thought out message detailing the ways she believes it is ungortunate that Jesus gets intermixed with messages of hate and that she was concerned he was sad/hurt. (She’d already twittered to Perez that his comments were hurtful a few weeks back and he did not rescind even his “slut” comment). Pretty classy of a 16 year old. Mad props Miley. Mad props. Now THAT’S Jesus-y.

At the end of the day I’m shocked we’re all still talking about a stupid beauty pageant but we are.

social responsibility: celeb apprentice style

Feel free to watch the entire episode here and tell me what you think in the comments section below.  You can also check out LPA’s official press release on the matter.

First of all–seriously?!  Both celebrity teams just “happened” to want to use little people as the punch line…hmm…

I’m not a regular viewer of Celebrity Apprentice but my friend Clint (who happens to be an LP) told me about it…

So here are my thoughts:

Part 1:

“Jesse James bathed by midgets…”
“That would be funny”.
“Jesse James being bathed by little people.”

It’s not even about the word – midget vs. little people.  Seriously.  What is so inherently funny about me, or a group of people like me?  Just stick a midget in a commercial and people will laugh?  That hurts.

What if I changed midget to black person, homosexual, or mentally retarded?  Is that so laughable?  So then why is it okay–or why is it so darn funny–”midgets” make it viral?

Just put a bunch of little people in the video and people will gawk and laugh?  Wow.  I’m not angry because they used the less PC-term, midget, instead of little people.  I’m angry that they think I’m a sub-species just inherently funny because I exist.  I’m all for comedy–even things that push the envelope–but what about social responsibility?

Tell me, will someone please tell me, why I am such a joke?

Part 2:

Okay, so obviously the LP’s aren’t offended and need a buck or two or are perfectly fine with “selling out.”  But at the end of the day, I would urge them to consider the bigger picture.  Bigger than a freakin’ dollar or two–did they consider the social implications of what they were participating in?  That they were hired to be laughed at.  What would LP children think who saw this?  That they exist to be laughed at?

Jesse James was pretty nice overall, “I treat ‘em like anyone else, they’re exactly the same as us, they’re just ‘that big’”.  But what I didn’t get was this statement by James:

“They know that people point and laugh at them and they’re totally comfortable within themselves to laugh back.”

I get it.  So I’m just not “comfortable with myself” so I won’t put myself in their position?  How about the fact that I am just one generation ahead of the little people whose parents gave them up to institutions and circuses because society told them to be ashamed?  Why would I support taking things back a decade or two, rather than moving things forward.  My biological parents gave me up for adoption because they didn’t want me to be institutionalized in Israel.  They gave me a chance.  It hurts, it makes me really sad, that we’ve come so far and yet still have so far to go.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY people, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.  Get into it.

what is the sign for crazy?

okay, so i had a freakish experience at a church i was visiting in my attempt to go like, um, once a quarter?  (hee hee).  it was a little scarish, and i know that’s not a word.  but seriously.  hmmm.  ponderings.  more about that later.

but i so needed to just come home and laugh at/with/in humanity. thank you ryan o’connor!

okay, so pair this with the last episode of the office and i was peeing my pants, i mean, giggling OUT LOUD. i so needed this. i am so subscribing to this guy on youtube.  snaps.  i know youtube shmatterings probably don’t count for like a reals-fo-reals post, but they do to me if they make me giggle.

right in this moment

I love that the clip below is finally on youtube.

Come back when I do the Radio City Christmas show, I’ll be needing a dancing elf.

This clip always makes me smile and psychs me up for an audition. :)  Me favorite Chenoweth plus hey!  I was a dancing elf.  I have a big next week ahead of me in that realm and a fun weekend down in Portland this weekend!  Today at work, my assistant came down with a cold so I turned my normal routine of 25 handwashes a day (hey, it makes sense when carrying for 13 germs preschoolers) to 50 handwashes and 15 Purell dollops.  Can’t get sick, can’t get sick, can’t get sick.

Also, feel free to follow me on the newest internet craze…Twitter!!!

Tina Tina Tina

If you haven’t seen the sheer genius of Tina Fey this month on SNL, click here, here and here to get caught up.  (The links take you to see the videos on NBC’s site).  Anyways, I urge you to consider writing in “Tina Fey” if you are so inclined to vote for McCain/Palin.  :)

emmy revue

first of all, mad props to eric mathew  who inspired the live-blogging for his vma live-blogging, i tried my hand at it this time.  vma’s might provide a little more CRAZY than this event which is a little more “regal”.  (btw, did anyone think they really tried to step it up and compete with the oscars this year?  it was a little boring, but it seemed like they were trying to be more glamorous.  and they gave crazy MAD PROPS to the writers several times).

  • started out with oprah, bringing out the big guns from the getgo. she’s giving the speech, but i am hoping for some jokes.  they are showing a lot of the more legendary actors in the audience rather than the up-and-comers, (meryl streep, etc). as if to pump up the glamour of oscar’s little sister, emmy.  as if to say WE ARE LEGITIMATE.  you already were no need to prove.
  • now out with the illegitimate child of television, reality.  eh, the hosts are not that funny yet.  seacrest is trying hard.  okay heidi klum is gorgeous, i know.  we get it.  even in a suit.
  • here comes amy poehler and tina fey to the RESCUE!  blah blah blah i like rainn wilson.  dwight schrutte needs to win something soon.

grey’s 5.0+

snl scored again after last week’s tina fey sketch…this week’s political satire was almost as funny.

okay, yeah i have the first cold of fall 2008 a la my dayjob of caring for 10 sniffling noses but i can’t possibly have a bad week with the emmy’s tonight and grey’s season 5 premiere on thursday.  but still, i really hope this cold clears up soon and doesn’t turn into the typical full-blown sinus infection.  finally new tv coming back to sweep “the hills” off my radar again.  waiting for the office + brothers and sisters too.

and grey’s…seriously?!  whathe….

rose is pregnant with derek’s baby?!  just after he and meredith get back together?

derek gets hit by a car one season and almost dies one season after meredith almost drowns?

okay, i admit it.  this is a soap.  but still, i will be watching. :)
